This photo was taken in Murcia, Spain — a city full of old buildings like this one, each showing quiet signs of time. The slightly worn façades are, to me, part of the charm — proof that the old and weathered can still hold beauty.
Song that fits the mood:
“Way Down We Go” by KALEO
On the balcony across from the building in the picture, an elderly man sat with a glass of Ribera del Duero in his hand. His eyes rested on the dog’s movements, but his mind was far away. In his thoughts, he was sitting on the same balcony, sipping the same kind of red wine — but forty years earlier. Across from him: a woman with black, curly hair that shimmered in the last rays of sunlight. She was laughing so hard she couldn’t breathe at something he had just said. He could no longer remember what it was — only the sound of her laughter, and the quiet pride of having caused it. How that sound had set off butterflies in his stomach. He remembered the scent of her perfume. The dimple that appeared in her left cheek.
The tears in her eyes from laughing too hard. And he remembered the tears a few weeks later — there for very different reasons. All the wrong ones. Now, he sat alone on that balcony, remembering the one who got away.
