This photo was taken in Brescia, Italy — right outside a cozy little restaurant called Ristorante del Macc, located by Piazza Paolo VI with a view of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. All of this lies in the historical center of Brescia, where I found myself walking, soaking in the language and the charm of its picturesque streets.

Inside the restaurant sat a big Italian family — it had become something of a tradition. At the start of every year, the whole family would meet at this exact spot.
It was always a loud gathering: stories overlapped, hands waved, someone always spilled wine on the tablecloth. But this day was different — they had something to celebrate. The oldest cousin, after living abroad for seven years, had decided to move back home. It was the kind of Southern European lunch that never really ends. Dish after dish came and went — antipasti, primi, secondi, dolci. They sipped wine, laughed too loudly, clinked glasses again and again. And when the coffee and digestivo finally arrived, someone raised their glass one last time and said: Salute!
